FAQ

How is GeoDrops better than my existing Smart irrigation controller?

Most Smart irrigation controllers use weather forecasts to "guess" how wet your soil, while a rare few use unreliable soil sensors that fail over time in outdoor environment.

GeoDrops uses highly reliable, industrial-grade soil sensors, on top of modern self-learning AI that learns how your soil moisture changes with rain and sun.

Long story short, GeoDrops "just works".  Say goodbye to over-watering and under-watering, and stop letting your older Smart Irrigation controllers "guess" when and how much to water your garden.

Is GeoDrops hard to install?  Do I need to hire a Handyman?

GeoDrops is built for easy DIY setup — no handyman needed. Just use your smartphone and a screwdriver.  Most homeowners complete setup in under 15 minutes, guided step-by-step by the GeoDrops app.

Does GeoDrops work with my irrigation system?

GeoDrops is a Cloud based Smart Home service. GeoDrops can directly control compatible Smart Irrigation Controllers via IFTTT, including:

  • CloudRain, Netro, Rachio, RainMachine, and Yardian Pro

A more native, direct irrigation controller integration is currently under evaluation for Rachio and Hunter Hydrawise.  We will provide an update on this front in Early 2026.

Do I need 1 GeoDrops device for every Irrigation Zone?

No. Most homeowners assign 1 GeoDrops device to monitor and control groups of similar irrigation zones.

If you have a large watering area (such as a very large lawn), we recommend installing 2 GeoDrops (1 at a drier area of the lawn, and 1 at the average or center area of the lawn).  You can configure 1 or more GeoDrops devices into the same "Group" and use that Group to control as many irrigation zones as needed for this large lawn.

I water with my garden hose.  Is GeoDrops for me?

Absolutely. Even if you water manually, GeoDrops helps you water smarter. The app tracks your garden’s real-time soil condition and gives you personalized reminders and AI-powered insights on exactly when to water.

I'm on a tight budget.  Is GeoDrops for me?

Yes. You can start with a single GeoDrops device and move it around as needed to measure different areas. And you can easily expand your system over time for full-yard monitoring.

Is there a monthly fee for using GeoDrops?

We will be charging a monthly or annual service subscription fee for people who purchase in the future.   For people who buy and own the GeoDrops Launch Edition devices, the service fee will ALWAYS be waived (ie - FREE), for the entire lifetime of these Launch Edition devices.

The service subscription fee is needed to help offset the high cost of running a 24x7 continuous personal Cloud AI Training software in the Cloud, which is necessary to learn and monitor your soil conditions, and track how your soil property changes over time.

This monthly service fee is very similar to Cloud-based Smart Camera subscription services, such as Nest Aware (Google Home Premium) or Ring Home Subscription.
